  The booklet UNDP for Beginners: A Beginner’s Guide to the United Nations Development Programme is now in its 4th edition. The current version was updated in early 2010 and translated into French and Spanish.

 

   

How to Guide – Monitoring and Evaluation for DDR Programmes

The How to Guide from 2009 provides guidance to experts in disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants (DDR) on how to better plan and manage monitoring and evaluation of DDR programmes. It was published by UNDP's Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery.

 

   

Background Paper on Simplification

This background paper for for the UN Development Group identifies lessons learned on simplification of the common country programming process in the Delivering as One pilot countries and selected other countries.

 

   

A pot of chicken soup and why Brits always carry umbrellas: in defence of indicators

This text is a reply to my friend Chris Whitehouse and his critique of indicators in development work. It has now found a final home in a collection of evaluation texts by the Royal Tropical Institute of the Netherlands called "Why did the chicken cross the road?".
